Choosing between Supabase and Firebase
15 March 2026 · 7 min read
If your data has real relationships — orders belonging to customers belonging to organisations — Postgres and therefore Supabase will save you months. Joins, constraints and migrations are solved problems there.
If your product is realtime-first with simple, denormalised documents and you want the least infrastructure thinking possible, Firebase is genuinely excellent and fast to build on.
The tie-breaker is usually reporting. The moment somebody asks for analytics across entities, SQL becomes the difference between a query and a data pipeline.
Both are fine choices. Choosing badly costs far more than choosing slowly, so spend an hour modelling your actual entities before committing.
